Help & accessibility

We've designed this site to be easy to use and accessible for everyone, regardless of age, impairments or means of access. It supports standards-compliant web browsers and alternate devices such as audio browsers and PDAs. This section provides information about site accessibility and highlights some features.

Specification

The site has been developed using standards-compliant XHTML 1.1 and CSS 2.1 and conforms to the Web Accessibility Initiative's Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 1.0, level AAA.

Recommended browsers

Although this site should be fully accessible from any web browser or device, only browsers that support modern web standards will receive a fully styled version.

To gain the full benefit of this and other websites, we recommend you use the latest version of your preferred browser, as this is more likely to be standards-compliant. You can choose from one of the following:

Page zoom

The page zoom tool (top right) makes it easier to enlarge text and images on the site, which is useful for people with mild visual impairments or manual dexterity impairments.

Reading PDFs (portable document files)

To read PDFs you need to have Adobe Reader installed on your computer. Most computers will already have this but if not you can download it free of charge from the Adobe site at www.adoble.com

Access keys

If you find it difficult to use a mouse, the main site navigation supports access keys. To move between pages, simply hold down the Alt key (Windows) or the Control key (Mac) and hit the appropriate key.

The access keys below follow the British governments standard, which have been adapted to this site.
